FOOTBALL.

i THE ALLENTON CLUB. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual- meeting of the Allenton Football Olub was held last evening, when Mr J. Smith presided over a fair attendance. The report stated that the past season had. heen most successful, most of the credit being due to the president, vice-presidents and committee for the manner in which they had helped the club and conducted its business. There had been a good membership, a total oj,' 70 being registered. Several of these players had left the district, but the majority were still local residents, and the prospects for the coming season were pood. Players had been lax in paying their subscriptions in the past, and it was up to them to help their club by paying promptly. The club had fielded three teams—senior, junior and third-grade,—all of which did very well in their respective sections. Training quarters had again been obtained at the Showgrounds, and the lights there had proved of great assistance. A smoke concert had been held at the end of the season. From a social point of view it had been a great success, and although it did not pay financially it was a fitting conclusion to the year. Four players had gained representative honours during the year. The lmlnnco-sheet showed that the year had commenced with a credit balance of £1 17s 3d, and finished with a credit balnce of £ll 15s Bd. The. matter of one guinea charged the club For the use of the training shed was discussed, and it was pointed out that as the Allenton Club had provided the lights at the training quarters, and the Rugby Union was getting the benefit of them, some allowance should le made the club for its outlay. It was decided to ask the executive of the Union to meet the club either by giving it the use of the shed free or make a grant toward the cost of the lighting. The Ashburton Rugby Union wrote asking for the club's nominations, advising that the following nominations had been received for the positions of president and vice-presidents:—Presi-dent, Mr S. H. Sullivan ; vice-presi-dents (two required), Messrs E. Chambers, H. J. Chapman, E. H. Childs, H. D. Johnston, J. C. C. McLachlan, F. Pritchard and H. Sarney. It was reported that at a committee

meeting Messrs S. H. Sullivan, H. j3ar r ney and E. Chambers had been nominated on behalf of the elub. This action was confirmed by the meeting. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr R.
