THE OPENING CEREMONY.

In the presence of 4000 spectators Lord Bledisloe this afternoon opened the new St. Patrick's College at Heretaunea. There was a representative cratherin"V including Archbishop Redwood, Archbishop O'Shea, the Prime Minuter and other the Chief Justice and other Justices, members of Parliament, the Director of Education and the heads of various other educational institutions. An apology for absence was received from Bishop Sprott. Fattier Dowling welcomed the guests. Archbishop Redwood, who presided, gave a message of thanks and loyalty To Lord Bledisloe, who congratulated the Marist Brothers upon their achievement and' expressed admiration for the building and its equipment. The new school stands in several acres of ground, the oleasant tree-stud-ded fields being backed by bush-clad hills. The building, a two-storey brick structure, designed according to the latest ideas and requirements of a secondary school, is equipped and 1 furnished on the most modem lines throughout. The cost of the building- was £76.000. and the whole cost, including the iand, £IOO,OOO. The chapel is still to be erected from funds raised bv old boys.
