OCEAN YACHT RACE.

THREE VESSELS COMPETING. LEAVING AUCKLAND TO-DAY. (Special to "The Guardian.") AUCKLAND, March 13. The race between three yachts across the Tasman—twelve hundred miles of stormy water—will commence at two o'clock to-morrow afternoon. The three vessels are the Auckland cutter Rangi, the Norwegian yacht Teddy, and the Australian yacht Oima'ra. The race wijl end at Sydney but O'imara and Rangi will probably continue to Melbourne. Such a race has never been sailed before, and it is the greatest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere up to the present.. It is impossible to say how long the boats will he in reaching their* goal, or which will be the winner. As they will he out ofj sight of one another for a. great part 5 of the journey, it is possible that they will experience different s weather, so that tlie race has an element of luck. The Oimara is equipped with a powerful radio transmitting set, and she will be able to keep in touch with the outside world. All the vessels are about 40ft in length, and if they run into had weather their passage may be a perilous one.
