The market has been .affected by cheaner'offerings from, Canterbury, where Tuscan is being sold at 5s 3d per bushel, sacks extra, on trucks, with Hunters realising very little more. The fowl wheat market is quiet with merchants still content to work from hand to mouth. .Lines of wheat rejected by millers as not being up to standard are more than sufficient to meet the demand. The price may be given as 5s per bushel, sacks extra, ex store. Owing to unsuitable weather during the past few weeks, the thresh- ; ing, of oats has not yet commenced in this* district. It is too early yet' to say what the total returns will he from the oat crops this season. New season's chaff is now available from Canterbury at considerably lower values than those ruling at this time last year. The local, market at present is in a state of ilux. Values are in the vicinity of £5 a ton, supplies now on their way to the market will be available at round about £4 10s per ton, ex truck, Duiiedin, sacks extra. The spell of fine weather is resulting in heavier supplies of potatoes being sent to the market. Good quality tubers are worth up to £5 per ton. The market is weak. Samples of new season's farmers' dressed ryegrass are becoming general from Southland. The quality, however, is disappointing. The unseasonable weather has affected the weight of the seed and discolouration is also noticeable. Fescue is in demand! for early shipment to America. The quality of the dogstail crop will be much inferior to that of the last two or three seasons. The crop is also expected to be on the short side. MELBOURNE QUOTATIONS. MELBOURNE, March 13.
