TWENTY-FIVE YEARS ACO. (From "The Guardian." Mar 14, 1906). Horticultural Society.—A committee meeting of the Ashburton Horticultural Society was held on Monday, when there were present Messrs B. H-'. Leehner (in the chair;, G. .lesson,' H.. C. Craighead., W. Pu-kford and W. -Bushell. A letter was received from Dr. Bett enclosing a donation to the prizes. A rough balance sheet for the late show was presented and showed a small deficiency. Votes of thanks were passed to the various judges, and to Mr Tucker for the use of timber. Oddfellows.—Bro. ,D. P. Loasby, of Groytown North (Grand Master of New Zealand), who is paying an official visit to the Ashburton Oddfellows Lodge, xVI.U., 1.0.0. F., arrived to-day. He "/as met by His Worship the Mayor (Mr H. Davis,, Messrs J. Nicholas and C. Campbell. Mr Davis extended a hearty welcome to Ashburton to Mr 'Loasby and during the afternoon, escorted' him round the Domain and other principal objects of interest in the place. W.C.TiD.—The meeting of the Ashburton Branch of tlie Women's Christian Temperance Union, was held in. the Templar Hall yesterday afternoon, Mrs, J. McLeod (president), presiding oyer :i o-ood attendance of members. The delegates to the recent Convention in Christchurch gave •an account of the business done there. They also-re-ported 1 that the next District Convention would be held in Ashburton in September.
