BRUTAL ASSAULT.

A YOUNG WOMAN ittJURED, (Special to "Tho Guardian.") CHRTSTCHURCH, March 13. A young woman was brutally attacked by a prowler at -Cashmere last night. She was able to escape but arrived at the place where she was employed with her face cut, and her throat badly bruised. The prowler escaped. The woman, it is stated was on her way home from a picture show and got oil' a. tram at Barrington Street. As she walked up the hill, a cyclist rode past her and then stopped and asked her where a certain person lived. She said I she did not know and walked away but the man went alter her ami suddenly attacked her. He seized her by the throat and flung her down using at the same time it is said, a threat lo kill her. In the tussle, she went over a bank and freed herself sufficiently lo enable her to .scream*. Her assailant then made off leaving her to struggle home. A search was made but the young man had made good his escape.
