CANTERBURY COMPETITION. (Special to “The Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This IDay. . The results of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s 1930 Merino wool competition hay© been announced. An interesting feature is that j|d separated the value of the wool of the winner and that of the runner-up. The results are:— James Stevenson-Total weight, in grease, 221 b lOoZ; total weight scoured, 111 b 2oz; value, 15s 9d 1 R.-C. Todlmnter (Blackford Estate) —Total weight in grease, 201 h 'loz; total weight scoured, lllb . lOoz; value, 15s Bid ... ... 2 R. C. Tod'hunter (Blackford Estate) —Total weight in the grease, 191 b sozj total weight scoured, lllb Goz; value, 15s Gid . ... 3 W. W. Mcßae—Total weight in grease, *2olb v-oz; total weight scoured, lllb Boz, value, 14s Gd 4 The winner receives a cup valued at £5 5s and will have his name inscribed on the challenge cup (value £55) and will hold it till it is won next year. When one exhibitor has won the challenge cup three times it becomes liis property. Air Todhunter won the 1928 and 1929 competitions and just missed winning the 1930 competition by the difference in the value of the best fleece from his three rams. An indication of the decrease in the value of wool is given by. the fact that the winning fleece last year was valued at £1 2s B.id, the weight in the grease being 201 b Goz, and scoured 121 b.
