UNEMPLOYMENT LEVY
DISCUSSION BY THE ALLIANCE. THE QUESTION OF PAYMENT. (Per Press Association), f WELLINGTON, This Day. The conference of the Alliance of Labour, said the secretary (Air Roberts) to-day, discussed at length yesterday afternoon the Unemployment Act and its administration. A report was submitted suggesting rational methods of taxation in connection with the scheme for insurance against unemployment, methods of employment, rates of wages, and sustenance pay. The report was unanimously adopted. It w*as further decided thnt_the report be placed before unions for approval . The question whether workers should pay the current instalment of the unemployment tax will also be submitted to unions. Delegates expressed, through a resolution, the unanimous opinion that unless the Government altered its methods of taxation in connection with the Act and the administration by the Board, unions would not pay the levy.
