(From Our Own Correspondents.) METHVEN. Mr S. Buckett (Postmaster) lias resumed duty after his annual leave. Mr A. B. Adams, who has been, leading driver on. the railway jit Methven, left this morning with his family for Christchurch, Jo which station ho has heen transferred l on promotion. Mr It. McKee, of Palmerston North, an erstwhile resident of Methven, is paying a visit- to this district. MOUNT SOMERS. The Mount Somers Road Board, whose district merges into the Ashburton County from. April 1, held its final monthly meeting on Monday, there being ‘present Mr R. J. Lochhard' (chairman), Colonel R. B. Neill, and Messrs C. A. Bland, E. J. Maugh, and A. B. Loekhead. The overseer reported that one team had 'been engaged in repair work between Clent Hills and Blowing Point in the Ashburton Gorge, and the other had been engaged in the Alford Forest district. A resolution was carried indicating to the Ashburton County Council, as a .matter of exereme urgency, the erection of the proposed bridge at Lamb’s crossing over Bowyer’s> stream, the J'lerk being instructed to place the matter befo.ro the Council as the chief liocessity! for the district’s progress. The transfer of roll No. 324 from Mr R. C. Patton to Mr J. McClimont was approved. Owing to the near approach of the abolition of the board, Colonel Neill proposed and Mr Waugh seconded, on behalf of the ratepayers, a Vote of thanks to the chairman, for the ability .displayed and time given attending to. the district’s needs. The chairman was also complimented upon the tactful manner in which he conducted meetings. Members also generously referred' to the good service hv the board’s employees, and recorded a vote of thanks accordingly. The board adjourned to sit as a Cemetery Board and later as the Alforest Forest Domain board. Miss Greenwood and Mr G. Webb, physical instructors for the Canterbury Education Board), paid an official visit to the Mount Somers school on Tuesday. HINDS. The Coldstream Sunday School had its annual treat in the Whare last Saturday,'and all thoroughly enjoyed the games and competitions. After tea, the prizes were presented by the Vicar. Two special prizes given by Mrs Bargh were awarded for attendances. The children have made a contribution of 10s to the Earthquake Relief Fund. Supplies- of mushrooms are plentiful here this season. One specimen selected from a collection to-day measured 30 inches in circumference.
