BOROUGH SCHOOL.

DECISIONS OF COMMITTEE. The Borough School Committee met last evening, when there were present Messrs F. J. E. Smallbone (in the chair), Et M. Gabites, T. S. J. Doher--ty, "W. C. J. Osman, T. G. A. Harle and the Rev. A. J. Petrie. The Headmaster (Mr S. H. Sullivan) reported that the attendance for the last month had been very good. The present roll-number was 443, and the average 428.1, being 9G.6 per cent. Mr R. Richards, probationary assistant. had been appointed to a position at the Otago Bovs’ High School, and had had to start ' immediately. Mr Baird, of Timaru, had been appointed as a substitute assistant. l lF’had been decided to abandon the annual picnic. The children of the school were to swim lor their certificates on Friday. Mr Sullivan stated that two clocks were required for the school, and recommended that the committee apply to the Education Board. It was decided to apply as recommended. It was reported that the fence round ■the garden required.attention, the matter being left to the chairman and secretary. It was reported that the painting of the wall in the infant room had not yet been carried out, and .the chairman and secretary were authorised to obtain an estimate. The Canterbury Education Board wrote advising that a subsidy of £2l on a voluntary contribution of £IG was being forwarded toward the covering of the expenditure of £37 12s 9d, incurred in the purchase of books lor the school library. In the motion of the Rev. A. J. Petrie, it was decided to resign from the Canterbury School Committees’ Association. The visitors reported that with the .exception of the matters of the garden fence and infant room wall mentioned in the Headmaster’s report, everything was in good order. Messrs' T. S. Doherty and E. M. Gabites were appointed visitors for the ensuing month.
