NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. THE ANNUAL REPORT. WELLINGTON, August 18. "There are now twenty associations affiliated with the parent body with an estimated total membership of 28,690 members," says the annual report of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to be presented to the annual meeting on August 29Some of the associations, it continues, had failed to furnish their annual returns, and as a result their clubs would lie deprived of a good deal of benefit. For the first time in the history of the association the annual New Zealand tournament had been held after the New Year holidays. As a result the entries were small and, notwithstanding favourable weather and suitable seating accommodation, the attendance of the public had l>ecn smaller than, at any Now Zealand championships during the past eleven years. The total entries for all events had been 197, compared with 245 for the previous year. Dealing with junior tennis, the report says that a few of the affiliated associations had conducted tournaments with great success, and in other districts tournament play had been encouraged, though the efforts of the Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay Associations had not received the support they deserved. The committee believed that the majority of the affiliated associations were endeavouring to foster junior tennis, and there was every indication that the time was now ripe for proper organisation on a national basis. The statement of accounts presented with the report shpws a profit of £6l 2s 7d for the year. SUTTER DEFEATS MANGIN. NEW YORK, August 17. . At Rve (New .York) in the tennis final Sutter defeated Mangin to-day, 4-6, S-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.
