Four motorists, of whom three were women, were incinerated when ear was overturned on the Great North Road near Gladsmuir, where it skidded when it swung out t J avoid a mot-or-lorry.

The ear immediately took fire. The lorry driver and passing motorists heroically attempted to rescue the trapped women, but fierce flames drove them hack.

Within three minutes the occupants, with three fox terriers, perished. The women were Airs Eric Beilby, of Edinburgh, and her twin daughters, aged IS.
