FATAL TORNADO.
EIGHTEEN DEATHS IN AMERICA. s MANY RENDERED HOMELESS. NEW YORK, May 2. A message from Sioux City jjowa) states that 18 persons were killed by a tornado which swept the central western States of Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota and Missouri. Many have been made homeless, and much damage to farm property is reported. Many calls for relief have been received from scores of small communities where the wind did the greatest damage. WAREHOUSES SHIFTED BODILY. DOCTORS WORK BY FLASHLIGHT. (Received This Day. 1.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 2. Tiie main street of the town of Westby was destroyed by the tornado, leaving 1100 people homeless. Tobacco warehouses were lifted bodily from their foundations and slammed against the railway station. The failure of the electric light plant in Tekenen caused terrible suffering. Doctors worked by flashlights, assisting scores of injured.
