Inglis and Mr Andrew Orr were yesterday appointed representatives of the Nortn Canterbury Board of Education on the Ashburton High School Board. County Council Vacancy.—Mr Wm. Nosworthy, Chairman of the Anarna Road Board, has been requested by numerous iufluentiial ratepayers to stand lor the Mount Somers Riding of tin- 1 Ashburton County in the. place of Mr 'Thomas Harrison, resigned, and it is understood Mr Nosworthv will consent to be nominated. Mayoral Installation.—The installation of Mr H. Davis as. Mayor of the Borough of Ashburton for ’ the third time in succession took place in the Borough Council Chambers "fast evening. As lias become the custom, the function partook ot a social character. Amongst those present were: Mr J. McLachian, M.H.R., members of the Council, ex-Councillor .L G. Wallace, the Borough Valuer (Mr F. Makeig), the Postmaster (Mr R. I). Dansey), the Town Clerk (Mr H. H. Fooks), the Domain Curator (Mr J. Young), M essrs J. B. Christian, J. Snodgrass, P. H. Cox, J. R. Hart, H. 1). Acland, T. E. Untom. R. Davis, W. Cook, R. Bell, and J. Mellor. The Mayor opened proceedings by reading the annual statement. Mr T. Bullock, to whom was entrusted the installation of the IMayor, handed to His Worship thq keys of office, and formally installed him as Mayor of Ashburton. Ashburton Trotting Club.-—The weather was ideal for the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting at the A. and P. Association grounds th;? afternoon.
