LOOKING BACK.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the “Guardian,” April 12, 1905) Waterton Methodist Church. —The harvest thanksgiving Services in connection with the Waterton Methodist Church were held on Sunday afternoon arid evening. On Tuesday evening the usual harvest social was held, the chair bejng taken by the Rev. T. J. Wallis. Addresses were given by the Rev. Air Wallis and Mr S. S. Chapman. A musical programme consisting of quartettes, solos and recitations was presented, items being given by Alisses Davidson, Meyenberg, Shearer, Watson, E. Watson, E. Williams, V. Watson, and Mr H. Williams.
Ashburton Scottish Society.—There was a large attendance at the Oddfellows’ Hall, last evening to take part in the “Ingleside” and farewell to Mr John Lambie (Chief) on the eve of his departure to the Mother Country. The chair was occupied by Air Peter Stewart (Chieftain of the Society). Items were given as follow:—Songs, Mrs R. J. Ferguson, Miss Rowley, Messrs J. Kersal and W. Anderson; violin solo, Aliss Peggie Bain; pianoforte solo, Airs Donald AlcLean; sword dance, Air George Alorrison; Highland fling, Alaster Thos. .Pearson. The accompaniments were played by Alisses Terris, Anderson, Norman and Airs AlcLean. Alusic for dancing was provided by Alisses Terris, N. Reid, Anderson, Mr W.* AlcDonald, and Pipers A. Campbell and J. Scott. AH Peter Stewart, wishing Air Lambie bon voyage and a t safe return, referred to the excellent support tlieir guest had given the Society. Alessrs John AleLachlan and T. Patterson also spoke. Chertsey Sports and Racing Club.— A meeting of the committee of the Chertsey Sports and Racing Club was held in the" local Library Hall last evening. A. C‘. Cameron (chairman), J, ,Stringfellow, J. Hamilton, N. Johnson, W. H. Dun-, stan, P, D-oig, J. Cameron, and A. Ironside (secretary). The tender of Mr E. F. Hughes for the refreshment booth was accepted. The programme for the forthcoming meeting was approved. V
