THE ASHBURTON DOMAIN.
Sir, —Alapping out our holiday just recently, my wife and I chose a trip south. Starting from Christchurch, We planned Ashburton as our first stop, in which we spent the week-end. Arriving on the Saturday morning we went for a walk jound the town and environments, which certainly gaye us the impression of some marked improvement. jon the Sunday we visited the Domain/for which, while living in the district, we had great admiration, and have held that admiration high to others who do not know it. But, 10, our admiration and pleasant memories of the past were rudely shocked at the dirty, untidy state of flowers, grounds, swimming pool, and, in fact, everything about it —dirty papers, refuse, garden and otherwise. Its untidy appearance prompted us to write these lines. We have always thought of it as when we were living near the lovely charming Domain, when all was neat and clean and pretty. Now, just the reverse —an absolute disgrace. From being proud we were disgusted. It certainly is not credit to Ashburton. We remarked to some local business men our opinion, and they could not but agree.
