TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

DECISIONS OF THE BOARD. The Board of of the Ashburton Technical School met yesterday ■afternoon when there were present Messrs R. Galbraith (chairman), T. Hayes, J. Watson, F. J. E. Smallbone, W. Bramley, G. W. Andrews, R. Houston, and W. G. Hillier. The financial statement showed that there was a credit balance of £641 19s Id. The report of the Principal (Mr R. J. Thompson), as published yesterday was adopted. The balance sheet for the year, returned from the Audit' Department, showed the year opened with a ciedit balance 0f ( £i.056 os* 7d, and closed w ; 1 h a credit of £1461 16s sd. The chid ptemls of receipts were Government grants for salaries £4618, incidental allowances £1177 16s 4d, the total of receipts being £6602 12s 4d. The chief items of expenditure were salaries £4506, buildings, etc., £269 16s 6d, furniture, fittings, apparatus £llO 9s Id, material for class use £283 2s 2d, caretaking and cleaning £230 11s 10d, lighting, heating and water £lB9 10s 7d, the total working expenses being £1303 8s lid. . . For the visiting committee, Mr Hillier referred to several requirements about the school. He had visited several class rooms and he was convinced that more accommodation should be provided. In one room the students were roasted in summer, and in another room they were frozen in winter. He moved that the Executive should go into the matter. The Principal said the Department had already declined to, grant extra rooms while the High School was not filled. . The motion was seconded by Mr Smallbone and carried.
