(From Our Own Correspondents). LYNDHURST. V, 1 The success always attendant upon all social activities of the Lyndhurst Bachelors’ Club was surpassed when the club held a benefit dance in aid or the Cancer Fund. The Lyndhurst Hall was attractively decorated. Music uas supplied by Mr H. McDonald s band, Ashburton, while extras were played by Mr K. Cook. The duties of M.C were carried out by Mr A. Cook and Mi- J. Lilley. During the evening Mr P. Brown (chairman of the cluli) thanked the people for attending and making the dance a success. Mr tv. b. Prebble thanked the Bachelors Club for their efforts in helping such a good cause, which, as a result of the dance, benefited to the extend of £lO. rakaia. The fortnightly meeting of the Rakaia Dodge 1.0.0. F. was held in the lodge room on Monday evening. Bro. E. B. Osborne, P.N.G., presided over a good attendance. Two membei s were reported on the sick-list. On account of next meeting falling on Easter Monday, it was decided not to meet till May 5, when the installation of officers will take place. Four candidates were proposed for membership. It was decided to donate £1 Is to the Cancer Appeal Fund. It_was decided that the lodge meet at 7.30 p.m. in the winter months. DROMORE. The first Anglican Church service held in Dromore for many years took place in the schoolroom on Sunday evening, and was conducted by the Rev. C. W. Haskell (curate of St. Stephen’s, Ashburton). There was a good l attendance, and it was decided to hold services monthly. Mrs C. Wain officiated at the organ. RUAPUNA. At the harvest thanksgiving service in the Anglican Church on Sunday, afternoon, there was a very large attendance. The Rev, Cocks preached an enlightening sermon. The hall was tastefully decorated with flowers, produce, and other gifts, which are to be sent to St. Saviour’s Orphanage. The weather last week, with the exception of Saturday and Sunday, which were raw, was hot and sultry. Light misty rains fell on Sunday, a total of eight points. Rain is urgently needed for turnip crops, as can be seen by the yellowing tops and small bulbs. Prospects of good l crops this year are poor. There will be a shortage of winter feed. , . The Ruapuna i Tennis Club is to play a friendly tennis match against Alt. Somers on Saturday, on the Mt. Somers courts. LAURISTON. The adjourned annual meeting of the Lauriston branch of the Farmers’ Union was presided over by Mr C. A. Fyfe, when a record attendance was present. The chairman, in his report, stressed the necessity for stronger membership, w r hich would consolidate the interests of farmers. The balance-sheet showed a deficiency of £1 os 3d, due to the special grant of five guineas given to the Earthquake Relief Fund. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr H. J. C-notliers; vicepresident, Mr G. A. Franks; hon. secretary, Mr W. R. Hammond; hon. treasurer, Mr A. J. Rushton; delegates to Mid-Canterbury Executive, Messrs G. A. Franks. W. R. Hammond and Copland; official correspondent, Mr C. A. Fyfe; hon. auditor, Messrs McFarlane and Franks.
