REPORT CONTRADICTED. FIFTY MORE MEN ENGAGED. ’ I ■ • • . 1 (Special to the “Guardian.”} WELLINGTON, April 8. The temporary transfer of a survey party from the South Island Main Trunk railway to the Lewis Pass road survey caused the circulation of a report that the construction policy was again in question. However, the answer of the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) to this suggestion was that he is arranging for a further 50 men to be employed at thq Parnassus end of the gap. - . . As for the survey party, the Minister explained that it has been removed to the Lewis Pass road survey, and will return as soon as the weather becomes too Severe for working in that locality. “The position of the railway survey on -which this party was engaged is, said the Minister, “such that it will not hinder the work of construction. Some 26 miles haye been completely surveyed from Wtf aranui southwards to a point about eight mil op beyond the Clarence River, including the Clarence bridge site. At the south end a party is still employed, and will he kept so employed on' the survey from Parnassus northwards. Eight miles have been completely pegged, and a trial line survey completed for several miles beyond this. Ample work has been set out from the north to keep work fully in hand until the survey party returns.”
