BRITISH EMPIRE GAMES. NOMINATIONS FOR TEAM. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 8. At the request of. the council of the New Zealand A.A.A., the Wellington Centre, at its meeting last night, nominated P. Munro (discus), F. S. Ransom (hurdles), and A. Hill (walking) for the New Zealand team to take part in the forthcoming British Empire Games. “I think I can go as manager,” said Mr Kitto (chairman) amid laughter. “In nominating anyone,” he continued, “it must be taken for granted that they have a reasonable and/ fair chance of success. Where is the money coming from if we do send athletics?” he asked. Mr D. Paris: I don’t think there will bo any money, but ;.t is an honour to be nominated. It was stated that other bodies had allocated their share to the rowing eight, and £IOOO had been raised while another £BOO would be required for that purpose. Mr J. O’Sullivan: If any athletes go, the money will have to be found for them. , The chairman said he thought Ransom and Hill were both likely to improve. SPECIAL PRIZES AT HINDS. Winners of special prizes in connection with the Hinds Athletic Club’s annual sports meeting last Saturday were as follow: —Boomerang Cup, most points in the one mile and 10 mile cycling events (open to country competitors only), \V. J. Tod, 7 points; medal for most points in cash running, jumping and cycling events, L. T. Higgins, 9 points, W. J. Tod, 8 points, runner-up; medal for most points in amateur running and jumping events, G. d’Auvergne and R. Mellwraitli, 6 points each; amateur cycling, W. A. Christensen, 6 points. The cup for most points in the open dancing classes resulted in a- tie between. Miss R. Miller and Miss G. Bushell. It was announced at the sports that Miss Miller was the winner, hut on the points being cheeked it was found that Miss Bushell had three firsts to her credit, making her total the same as Miss Miller’s, who gained one first and three seconds.
