POSITION IN BENGAL. THE SITUATION UNDER CONTROL POWERS OF THE GOVERNMENT. (United Press Association— Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m ) DELHI, March 25. . The Governor of Bengal (Sir Francis Jackson) informed the Bengal Legislative Council that the Criminal Amendment Act. framed- during the critical period of 1925 to deal with revolutionary organisations, expires next month. Onlv certain provisions will be renewed. These confer powers xinder which the Government authorised ;to arrest and imprison, without, trial, those guiltv of seditious activities. Ine revolutionary movement which aims at violence and assassination was still active, but it had been possible during the last three years to keep the situation under control. If an emergency arose, the Government of India would be prepared to restore full powers to the Bengal Administration.
