COUNTY CENTRES.

(From Our Own Correspondents). METHVEN. The monthly meeting of the Public Library committee was held on Tuesday evening. There were present: Messrs W. J. Owen, J. Temple, Dr. \Y McKee, Mesdames J. Kilworth, G.*Burrows, G. R, Cleeve, A. Bonnington (librarian) and Miss M. A. Stone (hon.‘ secretary). Twenty-four new books were catalogued and placed on the shelves. It was decided to purchase a further £5 worth oi books, including some educational volumes. It was aTso decided to have the library section put in order. LOWCLIFFE. A meeting of the Farmers’ Union was held in the School, Mr J. Bruce Sesiding over a fair attendance. Mr C. B. Withell, gave an interesting lecture on “Sheep Management” and on the “Ryeland Sheep.” Air Withell was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. RAKAIA.

A meeting of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild was held in St. Andrew’s , schoolroom on' Wednesday afternoon, Airs Alorrison presiding over a wood attendance. Arrangements lor a Fair to be held next week were completed. The following stallholders were appointed:—Monday and Tuesday, Mesdames Breach and Evison, and Miss Bruce; Wednesday, Mesdames Lmdington and Bethune ; Thursday, Rokebv women; Friday and Saturday, Misses Clark and Stevenson; refreshments, Alesdames Newman, C. Shannon, E. E. Oakley, A. Shannon, Clark, and assistants; ice-cream, sweets, etc., Airs L. Oakley; dips, Alissos Sydney Breach and Alargery Lee. The first meeting for the year oi the Rakaia Young People’s Branch of the Christian Temperance Union was held in the Presbyterian Schoolroom. The president (Air A. W. Allan) occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance. Three new members were enrolled. A pleasant social evening was spent. Songs were given by Misses Maud Rapley, G. Hunt, R. Evans, B. Higlit, G. Oakley, A. Oaklev, Messrs H Hunt and P. Birkett. Miss Hight gave a lecturette. Supper was served by the ladies. Ihertsey. V \ \ , At the quarterly meeting of the Chertsey Branch of the. Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union, Airs L. Croy presided over a good attendance. A vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Air Todd and Air Alurrey Jackson (Feiulalton, formerly oi 'Chertsey). An interesting letter from Miss Henderson (who is in India) was read, together with one from the Presbyterian Assembly, allocating the work for the year in the Alaori mission fields and in India. Air G. Hayman, clerk of the loael railway station, has been transferred to the railway telegraph office, and left for Christchurch on Monday.
