£SOO FOR A SOLDIER.
FATHER'S-GRATITUDE. Gratitude of a father is expressed in a legacy which has been left to a soldier who saved a wounder officer in the South African War. Mr Charles James Murray, of Earlywood, Windlesham, Surrey, formerly M.P. f° r Hastings and/for Coventry and a cousin of the Earl of Dunmore, has bequeathed £SOO in trust for Lance-Ser-geant Dickins, 2nd Grenadier Guards, and his wife and children. The will records how Dickins, when severely wounded himself, gallantly saved Mr Murray's son, Alastair Henage Murray, from the flames on the field of Diddulphsberg, South Africa. Unhappily, the rescued man died a few days after the lance-sergeant dragged him from the blazing grass.
