FARMERS' COMPLAINT.
HORSE WILL NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE. OBJECTS TO PILE DRIVING. Complaining that his horso would not pass over the Ashburton traffic brid-4 while the, pile-driver in connection with the erection of the new traffic bridge, was in operation, M Joseph Taylor. Longbeach Rural.mote asking the County Council if it had any control over the pile-driving operations He suggested that sonic arrangement'should bo made with the contractor to cease pile-driving one day in each week. Mr Taylor stated it was a matter concerning the satety or a large number of ratepayers and he thought the Council might do somethin"- to overcome the danger. lhero were others, he ■ supposed, who like himself, found it dangerous to attempt to go oyer while pile-driving was being carried out. , , The chairman (Mr J. Can) suggested that the contractor might be able to assist in some manner. The engineer said operations ceased during the lunch hour. In answer to Mr H. J. Crothers, the chairman said the contractor would be liable ill case of accident. The matter was left in the hands of the engineer to confer with the contractor.
