INCREASE IN CRIME.
AUSTRALIAN JUDGE'S VIEWS. (United Press Association—Copyright.l SYDNEY. March 7. The Chief Justice (Sir Philip Street), when dismissing the appeals of two hank robbers, commented on the 'increase of serious crime. He said that this was a disquieting circumstance, but, while nobody wished to see the excessive severity reintroduced, which at one time was a reproach to this country, punishment in future would have to' fit the crime. Leniency might sometimes be misplaced and might do more harm than good.
