COUNT VON TIRPITZ.

SUCCUMBS TO BRONCHITIS. BERLIN, March 6. Count von Tirpitz had recently been failing in memory. He was living unobtrusively in a. small house at Lake Stambouvg. A few days ago he sutterdd a. sharp attack of bronchitis and died in hospital. Admiral Count von Tirpitz, formerly German Secretary of State tor the Navy, was aged 79. He entered the German Navy as a cadet in ISGo. After a wide experience at sea. he was made in 1891. chief of the Baltic Station, and did much to create the torpedo service. He became Secretary ot State, 1897. and Vice-Admiral in 1899. One of his memorable phrases is "Ihe navy is a commercial insurance. Count von Tirpitz resigned in March, 1916, supposedly on the ground ol illhealth, after a discreditable regime during the war. _■
