PLUNKET SOCIETY.

ACTIVITIES IN ASHBURXON. The Ashburton Plunket Society met yesterday, the president (Mrs J. S. Laing) presiding. The resignation of Mrs G. J. »• Fisher, who is leaving the district, was accepted with regret. Mrs W. Birnie wrote tendering her resignation as treasurer. Members referred highly to the good, work Mrs Birnie had done in the past 15 months, and it was decided to ask her to reconsider her decision to resign the position. Nominations for officers for the ensuing year were called. Mrs Laing stated that as she would be in Australia for part of the year, she preferred that a new president should be elected. Mrs F. W. Seldon, secretary of the brick campaign, reported very favourably on the results that had so far been achieved. It was reported that the impression had got abroad that the Society had discontinued the collection of silver paper, but the committee wished it to be known that the need for the revenue was just as great as ever, and it would be pleased to receive as much silver naper as possible. • The president reported that Nurse Withell (former Plunket Nurse at Ashburton) was ill in Cbristchurch, but was making a steady recovery. A motion of sympathy was passed with Nurse Withell. The report of the nurse was as follows:—Town: Visits to homes 113, fo rooms 605. " Country: Visits to homes 129, to rooms 369. Twenty-two new cases had been placed on the books. The car had travelled 614 miles (32 in the town and 582 in the ,country).
