Mahatma Gandhi states that while he is ready to compromise with the Viceroy, unless a favourable reply to his ultimatum is received by Tuesday, the campaign of civil disobedience will commence. He will personally lead the first party of volunteers consisting of men disciples frojn his settlement at Ahmedabad, who will march to the sea coast. He refused to take the women disciples, saying it would be a cowardly action to place them in .the forefront of the battle, knowing that' Englishmen would never harm them.
