TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From “Guardian”, March 7, 1904.) Ashburton Rugby Football Association.—A committee meeting of the Ashburton Rugby Football Association' was held last evening. Present: Messrs W. G. Roberts (chairman), F. B. llobilliard, B. Cassells, J. Brown, F. Pritchard and F. H. Clioat (secretary). It was decided that the representative colours be black and white, and that the Championship banner for the senior competition, consist of a black background, edged with white and having the Association’s monogram worked in the centre. The banner to be presented to the Ilakaia club at the annual meeting. It was decided that a cup be procured as the junior trophy and that it be handed over to the Springburn club as winners of the junior competition. It was also decided to ask Mr W. H. Woods of Ashburton to audit the As- . satiation, accounts. Fairfield Picnic at Timaru.—The annual picnic of the Fairfield Freezing Works employees was held at Timaru yesterday. A sports programme was held on Caroline Bay, the results being as follow : Butchers’ race: Penny J. Cooper 2, Brennan 3; Fellmongers’: F. McKeig 1, C. Trail 2, F. Harrison 3; Freezers’: Fooks 1, Deans 2, Ainsworth 3; Preservers’: Langdon 1, Hufiam 2, Jerard 3.; Manure Workers: Christiansen 1, Arnst 2, Tutty 3; Oleo Works: Lee 1, McGee 2, Cox 3; Slaughterhouse: Johns 1, Kilgour 2, Brenton 3; Casing Works: Bennett 1, Druryi 2, Normand 3; Cooling Room : Martin 1, Hodgson 2, Lindsay 3. Southern Cross Football Club.—A meeting of the committee of the Southern Cross Football Club was held last evening, Mr A. Santy* being voted to the chair. Mr George Culverhouse was appointed the Club’s delegate on the Rugby Association. The following new members were elected: Messrs Lamb, Turtill, Millichamp, Nolan, Rowan, Lloyd, Palmer, Hill, Spring, Smythe and Davis. v Police Changes.—Constable Fade, who has been stationed at Ashburton as mounted officer for about eleven years has received advice of his promotion to the Detective Office at Christchurch.
