POULTRY INDUSTRY.

THE EXPORT OF EGGS. NEED FOR ORGANISATION. \ (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 6. The main discussion at the Dominion Poultry men’s Conference yesterday afternoon was on organisation. Mr Oswald Riley (the first president) expressed the opinion that producers could not get a payable price for ekpovt eggs without a Government guarantee. Mr Ironside (Department of Agriculture) expressed the hope that the Conference would evolve a better marketing method. At present eggs were sold in one bundle—good, bad and indifferent. He could not say anything about the export guarantee, but the local customer was the poultrynien s best friend. T Other speakers stressed' the difiicuLv in getting producers to pull together. Mr F. C. Brown (Chief -Poultry Instructor) said they were now up against dear feed and' increased production, and unfortunately the export market did not look bright, so that organisation was imperative. The Hon. G. A\. Forbes had got a grant of £IO,OOO to assist the export trade last season. Unfortunately producers throughout the Dominion did not take full advantage of the position. The local marketing executive and officers of the department had a scheme, and hoped to be able to throw out suggestions of o workable nature, as the outcome of a Conference, whereby the local trade He placed on a sounder footing. The Department was out to give the publicbetter eggs. This must bring about greater consumption and lead to the employment of more people in the industry. At the Conference to-day the following were appointed as the Association’s representatives 'on the advisory Committee to report to the Government on the proposals for marketing brought down by the Government economist: Messrs Bates (Wellington), Edglev (Auckland), Hutton (Otago), and Bradford (Canterbury).
