The Ashburton Electric Power Board met this mowiing, when there were present: Messrs. F. W- Watt (chairman), J. W. M. Dart, W. H. Bundle. E F. Nicoll, H. J. Crothers, WBrvant, R, J. Mulligan, A. T LilL The financial statement showed that the revenue had totalled £3592 Uk 5d for the month, the items being: Domestic service, £2239 18s 4d ; commercial service, £454 7s; power, £527 3s 10d' public lighting. £317 Gs; sundries, £53 19s 3d. The uingineer-Secretajy (Mr xl. u. Kemp) reported that the usual work had been doue in erecting new transformers and new services and in making changes necessary to supply additional .loads. The main line at Digby s Bridge was changed over to the new pole on pile foundations. A track had been cleared at»Valetta on the line of the piles driven there and the poles would be erected and the Hue changed over shortly. A high tension branch line was run to the new sub-station in Wakanui Road, Ashburton, and the sub-station put in service. Heavier cables were run in Rapley Street from the new sub-station. Most of the poles on the Chertsey-Overdale line have been erected and pole erection was proceeding on the Chertsey-Mitcham line. Transformers at Willow by and 31 itcham sub-stations were overloaded and 300 leva, transformers, recently received, would be erected as soon as possible. The size of these transformers required, a certain amount of rearrangement in each case. One of the transformers recovered would be installed at Springfield to replace the transformer there which was also overloaded. Some service alterations had been made at Methven owing to the reconstruction of the Post and Telegraph lines there. A south-west storm on December 24 brought down eight poles in the Wakanui and Dorie areas, and on December 27 19 more, mainly in the same districts, were brought down by another storm. The Running-Engineer (Mr A. T. Saunders) reported that units supplied from Coleridge had totalled 181,080, and. from the Diesel 087.8, making a total of 485,307.8. The maximum demand on the station was 1351 k.w. between 11.15 and 11.45 a.m. on December 17, and that on Coleridge 1248 k.v.a. between 11.5 and 11.35 a.m. on the same date. The maximum demand for the quarter ending December 31 was:—Station. 1378 k.w. on November .5; Coleridge, 1225 k.w.—1248 k.v.a. in each month ; difference, 153 k.w. —156 k.v.a. at £2 k.v.a.—£3l2. The Diesel plant was running for 7 hours 30 minutes during the month, making a total for the quarter of 21 hours 22 minutes, using 08 gallons of fuel, and generating 1905 units. Two transformers were burnt out and one damaged by a fall during the month. Repairs were being carried out as opportunity offers. The Inspector (Mr W. G. Welsh) reported that the house-wiring staff had a busy month, due to the Christmas rush. ' The main installation work had been the wiring and connection of 13 ranges, 7 water-heaters, 12 motors, including a 40 h.p. and 7j h.p. motors for Dobson Brothers' sawmill, at Hinds. The connected load for the month has been the highest attained for the year, being nearly 100 k.w. There was still a fair amount of work in hand for the coming month. Twelve electric motors had been connected. Connections on the system were: — Ranges 598, water-heaters 384. motors 1058, meters 4973, consumers 3400.
