The latest case at the arsenic poisonnig trial is that,.of Maria Szendi, on a charge of murdering her 23-year-old son because he made her look too old in the eyes of her young lover. Szendi was a popular hostess at teaparties among the well-to-do peasantry. , , ... . It is alleged that her husband died of poisoning after thrashing her for infidelity. A second husband also similarly died, after threatening her with divorce. .
