UNUSUAL VERDICT.
ACAINST MEDICAL EVIDENCE. A DRUNKENNESS CHARGE. (Ver Picks Association.) WELLINGTON. January lfi. Despite the evidence of two doctors who examined, him after his 9 arrest, Fred Aldingcr, aged 31, chief engineer of the Texac Oil Company, was to-day convicted of being drunk while in charge of a car. The Magistrate, Mr McNeil, made it clear that his decision was based upon bis opinion that defendant was under the influence of drink at the time of arrest. It was admitted in evidence that defendant had had some drinks. He was found asleep at the wheel of a stationary car.
In view of the fact that he was not driving, the Magistrate did not touch his license. He imposed a fine of £2O. It was stated that in all probability defendant r*ould appeal.
