OBITUARY.
MR JAMES MITCHELL. DOMINION’S OLDEST JOURNALIST (Per Press Association.) OAMAIIU, .This Day. Mr James Mitchell, the oldest working journalist in New Zealand, died this .morning. He was horn at Upper Hutt, educated at Wellington, and- later worked at Wellington, Napier, Christchurch, and Dunedin on Ivotli the mechanical and the literary sides of newspapers. His newspaper caroey extended over 07 years, over 50 of which as a member' of the “Oamaru Mail” staff. He had a remarkable record in semipublic life. For over 50 years lie was continuously a member of the North School Committee, and 39 years chairman of the same committee. Ho was an enthusiastic bandsman, was an original member of the Oamaru Garrison Band, and was for 50 years its treasurer. He was a member and chairman of the Otago Education Board and was one of the Dominion’s best authorities on education. <
