CONSULATE RAIDED
FORTY PERSONS ARRESTED ALLEGED SOVIET DUPLICITY. ESPIONAGE AT HARBIN.

- (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) SHANGHAI, June 10. An international issue is likely as the result oka raid on the Soviet Consulate at Harbin and the arrest of 40 persons, including the Consul-General, with the seizure of documents.
A Japanese message reliably reports the discovery among the seized documents of things likely to destroy Russia’s good faith in Japan and America. The message instances a Quantity of Japanese official notepaper, uplicates of the American Consulate’s seal, and forged American notes. It is alleged that these were used in forging passports and breaking and renewing the seals on official correspondence in transit on the Chinese Eastern railway, thus effecting communications between the Communists and the Soviet.
The Consul denies knowledge of the ■articles, alleging that they were placed among the seized documents for the purpose of discrediting the Consulate. The Nanking Government to-day announced its determination to suppress Soviet influence throughout China. —Australian Press Association.
