ASHBURTON TROTS

THE WINTER MEETING.

LINGFIELD WINS HANDICAP.

WRACKLER SECOND. %

The luck of the Ashburton Trotting Club, as far as weather conditions are concerned, again held to-day, when the Club held its winter meeting on the Ashburton racecourse. The morning broke fine, and a strong sun shone all day, conditions being very pleasant. Long before the start of the first race there' was a large number of patrons on the course, and as the afternoon approached the numbers were considerably swelled from all iparts of the County, while a special train brought another large quota from Christchurch. There were the usual large fields, and some excellent racing was witnessed 1 .

The Club had its arrangements well in hand, and the meeting went through without a hitch. The Ashburton Silver Band again attended, and played lively airs during the afternoon. The track was in first class order.
