ADVANCE ASHBURTON

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.

BEAUTIFYING BARING SQUARE

The executive of the Advance Ashburton Association met last evening, when the president _(Mr T. G. A. Harle) was in the chair. The sum of £2 2s was voted to the Ashburton branch of the St. John Ambulance Association. On behalf of the Beautifying Committee, Mr R. M. Dunlop repoi-ted that maintenance work had been carried out and planting would be carried out in season. One of the gum trees in Grove Avenue had developed blight, and he recommended that the tree be removed.

Mr J. Watson said the work of laying out Baring Square West was in hand, and he suggested' that the Association apply to the Borough Council for permission to plant trees on the street between Havelock and Cameron streets. The matter was left in the hands of Mr Dunlop to ascertain from the War Memorial Committee if this suggestion met with the latter's approval.

Messrs Harle and H. L. Barker were appointed a deputation to wait on the Borough Council at its next meeting to discuss the plans of the proposed new fence bordering the Domain in West Street.
