Arbuthnot Lane said that canned fmits minimised 1 health. Dr. A. Livingstone, holding aloft a tin of peaches, said: "This is a yellowed sepulchre. England is being canned to the detriment of her manhood. What with canned meat, canned fruit, and canned this and that, there is no energy left. Canning destroys the sunshine of fresh fruit, which is Nature's own tooth-brush."—Australian Press Association. A report was issued by the New Health Society recently affirming unequivocally the dietttic value of canned goods and the dismissal of all the old bogeys. It showed that canned and bottled fruits have the full value of fresh fruits and the maximum of cellulose, acrds, and salts. The committee was equally eulogistic of canned meats, and quoted the evidence of leading English and American scientists in support of its conclusions.
