GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. On account of the holidays, business in the grain and produce market this week reached zero. Many of the offices were closed on Thursday, and all were not open yesterday. With the lack of business there have been no changes in values, with the exception, perhaps, that the forward market for onions is firmer. Onions are in short supply, and the new crop, when it is ready, is expected to meet with a keen demand. For the main crop, MarchApril delivery, it is impossible to buy anything now under £5 a ton on trucks, while for February delivery the price has risen to £5 ss. For earlier delivery much better prices are being offered. There has been no change m the forward market for potatoes. Nominally prices are from £3 15s to £4 a ton on trucks, but growers are unwilling to sell. Damage has been caused by the rain to potato crops in several districts, with the result that few growers are willing to sell forward, at least at the prices offered. The following are quotations for produce, to be paid to farmers, on trucks, free of commission, sacks extra unless where otherwise stated:— Wheat.—Tuscan, 5s 5d to 5s 8d per bushel, according to quality; 5s 2d to 5s 3d for fowl wheat; Hunters, 5s 9d to 6s: Pearl 6s to 6s 3d.
