ENTERTAINMENTS

HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE, ! ' <v Tlie Girl from Chicago” will Ive shown at His Majesty’s Theatre tonight. Conrad Nagel and Myrna Loy take the leads, and a thrilling melodrama is presented. “Shooting Irons,” featuring Jack Luden is the other picture of a fine programme. It is full of thrills, displaying the actions of a daredevil, rough-riding cowpuneher out West. On Monday and Tuesday nights and on Tuesday afternoon, “Children of Divorce” will be shown. It deals with three young persons who reach maturity without the [benefit of parental love or advice. Of the three, only one shows any sign of intelligence; the others have developed as jazz-mad wastrels. What happens when Kitty Flanders marries Jean Waddington’s fiance while both are under the influence of a supernatural force, provides the film with a surprisingly dramatic climax. At the matinee on Tuesday gifts numbering about 150 will be distributed to the early goers. George Meeken and Doris Hill, in “ A Thief in the Dark,” will be seen on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

FIREWORKS DISPLAY. A more entertaining programme than that arranged for by the Wainoni Fireworks Company for Monday (New Year’s Eve), at the Oval, Ashburton Domain, would be difficult to conceive, for a display of fireworks on a large scale makes an irresistible appeal. The fireworks factory of the Wainoni Fireworks Company.has been responsible for the greatest displays presented! throughout the Dominion for many years past, and their excellence is well-established. They create many excellent designs displayed in fire of varied colours, and their set pieces are said to equal anything of the kind seen in the older countries of the world. The programme which these masters of pyrotechnics will carry out on Monday evening will be of a high standard and most brilliant. A largo supply of pyrotechnics! novelties will be seen, and a dazzling effect created.
