NEW COMPANIES.

A CHRISTCHURCH RECORD. REGISTRATION'S IN YEAR, (Special to the “Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Registrations of new companies in Christchurch during the year have established a record for this district, both in regard to number and the total capital involved. This is in striking contrast with the position in some of the other parts of the ‘Dominion, where the financial stringency has resulted in a marked falling off in .the registrations of new companies, f The Christchurch registrations this year have totalled 105, of which _97 were private companies with a nominal capital of £675,238, and only eight were of public companies, the nominal capital of which was £139,000. The total capital represented amounted to £814,238. Last year there \vere 77 companies registered in Christchurch, the total capital involved being £312,752, or considerably less than this year’s total. Sixty-nine were private companies with a capital of £251,757, and eight were public companies, having a total capital of only £61,000. A noticeable feature of the Christchurch registrations for several years past has been the very small proportion of public companies. This is regarded as an evidence of sound business conditions, and an indication of the preference of investors. The great bulk of the new companies registered this year are for the purpose ot carrying on businesses which have been established on a sound basis for some time past. Of the eight new public companies, the Regent Theatre Building, Ltd., and the New Zealand _ Wheat Growers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd., each has a nominal capital of £50,000. The next in point of capital is the Cornish Point Gold Mining Company, with a capital of £IO,OOO. Most of the other new public companies are semi-privajte in character, and the capital in each case is small.
