GRAIN AND PRODUCE. ; THE ASHBURTON MARKET. Owing to the holiday season, most of the mercantile firms in Ashburton have been closed this week and little business has been transacted. Consequently the markets for the different commodities have remained generally on a par with those of last week. Up to the present, the crops have been looking exceptionally well, but the ram during the last two days has razed maiiM throughout the County, and it is doufbtful if some of them will rise again. Undoubtedly, this wjll have a detrimental effect, generally, on the yield and quality. «d There has been practically-no inquiry for wheat, although odd 1""*! lave been sold at 5s 7d and 5s 8d on trucks. Fowl wheat is weak and not inquired for at 5s 2d on trucks. little inquiry has been made for oats Few Garibons are offering, and these are hard! to dispose of at 3s 6d for A"s and 2s lOd for B's, onj trucks. There has been no demand for grass and clover seeds. The following are quotations for produce to be paid to farmers, on trucks, free of commission, sacks extra, except where otherwise stated: — "Wheat—Tuscan, good milling 5s 7d to 5a Bd, f.a.q., fowl wheat 5s 3d, seconds 4s 6d to 4s 9d. Oats.—"A" Gartons 3s 6d, "B" Gartens 2s 9d, seed Algerians 3s, feed 8» 4d to 2s 6d; good heavy dark Duns 2s 9d to 3s, feed 2s 4d to Grass Seed—Perennial 3b 9d to 4s, Western Wolths 2s 6d to 2s 9d, Italian 2s 6d to 3s, red clover 6d to 7d, white lOd to Is lb, according to quality; cocksfoot 7d.
