CRICKET.

FAIRFIELD DEFEATS PAREORA. The annual cricket match for the Pearson Cup between Fairfield and Pareora, and the first of the 1928-29 season, was played at Pareora on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Fairfield! by 91 runs on the first innings. Pareora batted firgt, but the score only reached 80, V. Willis and H. Drennan each taking three wickets for seven runs. Fairfield compiled 171 runs, the chief scorers being W. Watkins 53, B. Jordan 42, and R. Drennan 31. For Pareora, P. Willis took four wickets for 12. Details are:—

THE SEAFIELD CLUB. The Seafield 1 Miniature Rifle Club held its weekly shoot on Saturday evening for a consolation trophy presented by Mrs J. Gregory. The match was won by R. Shelley, J. L. Hood (hdep. 32), 73-73-72-72—320, won the senior trophy. G. Smith and C. Stephens tied for the junior trophy necessitating a shoot off. The season will be concluded with a three nights’ shoot for ladies’ trophy and a “quick firing contest.”

GOLF.

ASHBURTON v. -METHVEN. A match between the ladies of the Ashburton and Methven Golf Clubs will be played on the Ashburton links to-morrow. The Ashburton team is as follows:—Mesdames J. Lane, L. J’. RESULTS OF RINGER MATCHES. The results of the ringer matches conducted by the ladies’ section of the Ashburton Golf Club during the season were as follow "Mrs E. F. Nicoll; juniors, Mrs H. J. Fraser and Miss M. Hunter (a tie). Mrs Fmser has defaulted in the final. METHVEN LADIES’ CLUB. Favoured with pleasant weather conditions, ether© was a good attendance on the Methven links when the Ladies’ Golf Club completed several matches. The winners were: Junior 18-hole stroke match, Mrs E. F. Ward; junior consolation 18-hole stroke handicap, Mrs R. N. Elliott; senior consolation 18-hole stroke handicap, Mrs J. F. Stone; senior medal match, Mrs G. Waddington; sealed handicap 18-hole stroke, Miss Winsome Elliott.
