TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From “Guardian,” April 14, 1903). Baring Square Church.—A thanksgiving sendee in connection with clearing off the circuit and trust debts of the' Baring Square Methodist Church, combined with a farewell social to the Rev. T. Fee, was held in the church last evening. Several made short references to the work done by Mr Fee in the No-license cause. Mr Fee was presented with a travelling rug. Mr R. Alcorn presented a financial statement showing that during the three years Mi* Fee had been in Ashburton the sum of £IB4O had been raised for church purposes. Rifle Match. —A rifle match took place on Easter Monday between teams from the Geraldine Rifles and the Ashburton Guards. The former won by 64 points. The individual Ashburton scores were:—Pte Smith 60, Lieut. Swartz 59, Sergt. Willis 55, Pte Swanson 54. Col.-Sergt. Tucker 52, Pte Cambridge 51, Sergt. Percy 46, Pte Aner 39, Pte Sparrow 39, Sergt. McAlister 34, Capt. Clarke 32, Pte Clark 19. —Total 540. Mayfield Sports Committee. —The Mayfield Sports Committee met last evening, when there were present:— Messrs A. Cooper (chairman), T. JRainey, G. Mummery, C. Griffin, I>. McLaren, J. Dellow (treasurer) and A. J. Moir (secretary). It was decided that a donation be made to Mr A. J. Moir, who is shortly leaving the district.
