The following Ashburton candidates were successful in the written examination in Grammar of Music, Division I. held here in November under the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, London:—Jean McCormick (Miss M. Staples), Olive E. Samuels (Miss D. Staples), Rona Vincent (Miss M. Staples).
An Auckland atelegram states that a cheque for £SOO has been forwarded, by Auckland dairy companies and the Farmers' Freezing Company, to Mr A, A. Thornton, who recently retired, on account of ill-health, from the position of chief dairy produce grader at Auckland. A letter accompanying the. cheque . appreciation of Mr Thornton's untiling efforts on behalf of the dairy industry over a period of 30 yean*.
