.(From Our Own Correspondents). STAVELEY. The committee of the Springburn Football Club met at Staveley on lnday evening, the chairman (Mr D. E. Savvers) presiding. It was decided to hold tiie annual meeting on Thursday evening. It was also decided to notify the Rugby Union that Mr J. Henderson would be the club’s delegate to the conference this week. The Loyal- Pioneer Ledge, M.U., I 0 0.F., met on Saturday evening, P.G. Bren S. T. Goldsmith presiding s>yer a fair attendance. For the first time for many months it was reported that no member was on the sick funds. P.G. Bro. C. Sloper reported on the at the District Conference, "where Bro. A. Syme was elected a member of the management committee. Another very enjoyable dance, organised by the ladies’ committee in aid of the hall bazaar funds, was held on Fridav evening. There was a satisfactory attendance. The dance music was supplied by Messrs E. Wolf rev, C. Chamberlain, A. Fagan, and E. Sawers. Mi- R. Young was M.C. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss B. Gun dry and Mr C. Sloper. A tasty supper, laid on tables decorated with jniehaelmas daisies, was supervised by Mesdames C. Timpson, A. R. Andrews, G. L. Bufton, R. Young and R. Green. The Springburn School held its annual treat and picnic in the Ashburton Domain on Friday., Forty-seven children and nineteen adults made the trip by train and spent an enjoyable day. Races, so arranged that the prizes were well distributed, occupied the greater part of the day. There was keen competition among children from six to eight years of age, for a number of special prizes, in the form of books given by Mr T. Crump. For luncheon and afternoon there.was an abundance of food, supplemented by soft drinks, fruit, and sweets.

HINDS. The annual harvest thanksgiving service was held in the Metnodisr Church yesterday afternoon. The church was decorated with grain, fruit and. vegetables. Harvest hymns were sung, and special lessons read. The Rev. W. "J. Enticott preached an impressive .sermon on “Harvest ” Mr B. Frampton jvas organist, being assisted by Mr A. Ellis (violin). On Sunday night twelve members of -St. Luke’s Choir, accompanied by Mrs Hanna (conductor), and Mrs Watson (organiser), were conveyed to Lynnford. where a harvest thanksgiving service was held. The room was tastefully ddcorated. The service was choral, Including an anthem “The Lord of The Harvest,” in which. Miss I. Hampton was soloist. The Rev. E. Hanna preached an impressive sermonj on “Thankfulness.” v MOUNT SOMERS. An enjoyable concert in aid of the Anglican Church funds was given by pupils of Mrs A. T. Smith, of Ashburton, in the Memorial Hall, on Saturday evening. The .programme of musical and vocal items were warmly applauded by a somewhat small attendance, and a. hearty vote of thanks was accorded the performers. The .party was hospitably entertained to supper by the ladies. Tne gathering concluded with a short dance. Saturday was the warmest day for several weeks, but the warm spell gave place to a southerly change early yesterday morning. Although rain held off, a strong chilly north-east wind blew most of the day. North-west conditions again prevailed to-day. , Several local farmers left to-day to join the farmers excursion to Southland. ANAMA. Perfect weather favoured Anama’s annual school excursion to Caroline ••Bay, Tiraaru., on Saturday, the trip ■being made by motor. Although there .was a good muster of adults, the attendance of children was disappointing. A very enjoyable outing was spent by the seaside, and in viewing the beauty spots of the town. Harvesting was completed at the week-end, and farmers are noiv engaged in autumn sowing.
