METHODIST MISSIONS.
MEETING OF BOARD. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 27. The annual meeting of the Foreign Mission Bo3rd of the Methodist Chinch of New Zealand was held in Pitt Street Church, under the chairmanship of the Rev. Dr. H. Ranston, President of the Conference. , , The financial statement presented by the Rev. G. T. Marshall, showed that the income for 1927 from all sources totalled £IB,OBB. Of this amount, the New Zealand Church contributed £13,569 and the Native Church m the Solomon Islands group £4519. Special items included were £2OOO from the Young Men’s Bible Class Union toward "the salary of a medical missionary ,and £B6 from the Dominion Sunday Schools for a surf-boat for use on Bougainville. A report was presented through uie Government Commissioner in the Solomons from Dr. E. Q. Sayers,, the recently appointed medical missionary, revealing the great need of extensive work to combat diseases prevalent among the natives. , An encouraging endorsement ot the board’s policy is shown in the Commonwealth Government’s action in granting an annual subsidy of £2OO, with a promise of a liberal supply of drugs to the estimated value of £2OO, and transport and other facilities. It was reported that later in the year, Dr. Clifford James, who has completed training in the School of Tropical Medicine, London, and has. gamed the Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, will proceed- to the field. Steps were also taken toward the establishment of a hospital to be known as the “Helena Goldie Hospital.”
