LORRY FATALITY.
CAPSIZE INTO RIVER. ONE MAORI KILLED, 17 INJURED. EARLY MORNING ACCIDENT. (Per Pi -ess Association.) ROTORUA, This Day. A combination lorry used for the conveyance of mails and passengers, and driven by Mr Hughie McPherson, oftupied by iS natives returning from a tangi at Te Whaiti to Ruotahuna, went over a hank 300 yards from Te Whaiti at 2.30 this morning. It is assumed that the stea ring-gear failed, The car plunged through the ti-tree into the river and overturned, pinning the occupants underneath. Aid was immediately forthcoming:, and the victims were extricated and carried to a meeting house. One was found to lie dead and all the. others were injured, some very seriously. The driver sustained a scalp wound but was able to render aid. Doctors immediately called up from Rotorua, are proceeding to the scene.
