SUFFERING FROM POISONING. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 19. A middle-aged man named E. J. Paterson who was staying at Kelburn House, Upper Queen Street, under the name of Wilson, was found in his room late last night suffering from the effects of poison. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital in a critical condition. In a letter left by him he stated that he had been unable to obtain sufficient work to feed himself, let alone his wife ■and children, so he was taking the only course open to .him. He expressed a wisih that the chemist from whom he obtained the poison (the purchase was duly witnessed) would not get into trouble, and concluded: "May God help my fellow workers and all my returned soldier comrades." KILLED BY MOTOR-LORRY. DUNEDIN, January 19. Mr Alfred Joseph Briggs, a wellknown citizen of Dunedin, was .killed by a motor-lorry at 8.30 this morning. The lorry is Said to have been travelling slowly, but the accident does not seem to have been witnessed ny anybody but the driver of the vehicle. Mr Brigge was a single man, aged 59, and was well known in musical circles. He was also a prominent Oddfellow.

MAN FOUND DEAD. AUCKLAND, January 19. Mr Arnold Kay, aged 45, believed .to be married, with a family in England, was found dead at 74 Shorthand Street, on premises of which he was caretaker. His head was in an oven with the gas turned on lull.
