SHARKEY-HEENEY BOUT. AMERICAN WRITERS’ VERDICT. (Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, January 18. That Heeney was the better man hi j the fight figciinsi Sharkey -and that in the return match the Gisborne man would emerge the victor, is the general

opinion of American boxing wi iters, according to a summary of Press' comment received' by Mr Ivan O Meara from a wireless expei'imenter in the United States. “There has been a great deal of talk about the fight,” said the message, “and it is generally agreed; that it was not a firs»l>class performance. Ihe blame for this is generally laid to Sharkey, who did not show much pep and fight. I __ r , “One ieport says that Heeney forced the pace right through the twelve rounds. Sharkey hit the New Zealander with everything he bad, but the New Zealander took it all smiling, and never seemed to be hurt. Sports writers agreed that Sharkey was not the aggressive man who fought Dempsey. He did not seem to have the same confidence, and was fully extended all the time. That’s about all theie is to it except that everybody was satisfied that Heeney could whip Sharkey next time. “The fans got the worst beating. The folks here want murder for thenmoney.”
